Legacy Films for Communities

Communities commission StoryKeeping to preserve the voices, milestones, and shared values that shape their culture and connect generations.

Major milestones give communities a rare opportunity to pause, reflect, and celebrate the people, values, and experiences that shaped them. Whether honoring a centennial, reunion, anniversary, preservation effort, or defining chapter in a community’s history, StoryKeeping creates legacy films that bring people together around a shared story they can feel proud of. These films become the emotional centerpiece of milestone events while preserving the voices and identity of a community for future generations.

Communities commission legacy films during meaningful periods of reflection, celebration, and preservation. Town anniversaries. Church centennials. Cultural preservation efforts. Extended family reunions. Museum initiatives. Historic building restorations. Moments when people come together around a shared history and identity. These legacy projects gather generations, celebrate what unites them, and create a powerful film future community members can continue experiencing and learning from for decades to come.

The Elk Mountain Legacy Film

Commissioned ahead of the 250th anniversary of the United States, The Elk Mountain Legacy Film was created to preserve the stories of the town elders and celebrate Elk Mountain’s role along the historic Overland Trail. Mostly funded through a federal grant, the project brought together community members whose memories, experiences, and perspectives helped shape a deeply personal portrait of the town’s spirit and resilience. As the Elk Mountain Museum Director explained, “We have all the facts and figures. What we need are the stories.”

The film premiered during Elk Mountain’s 2026 Memorial Day celebration, where generations of townspeople gathered to watch their shared story unfold on the big screen. What began as a simple email to StoryKeeping ultimately became a source of immense community pride, reconnecting families to the spirit, resilience, and identity that sustains the town. The film quickly traveled beyond Elk Mountain itself as residents shared it with friends and family members across the country and around the world.

The Alsatian Language Preservation Project

In the 1840s Henri Castro recruited Alsatian families to establish communities west of San Antonio. Over generations, the immigrants assimilated into American culture and the Texas Alsatian dialect went unspoken. In late 2021, descendants of the Castro Colonies commissioned StoryKeeping to preserve the language by capturing the voices, memories, and energy of the few native speakers left.

The film premiered at the historic Rainbow Theater in Castroville to a sold out audiences multiple nights in a row. The response from the community was immediate, helping inspire renewed interest in preserving the Texas Alsatian dialect and culture, including the establishment of an ongoing Alsatian language class.

St. Anthony Catholic Church Jubilee

As St. Anthony Catholic Church in Bryan, Texas approached its 125th anniversary jubilee, church leaders recognized an opportunity to preserve and celebrate the people, traditions, and spirit that shaped generations of parishioners. Founded by Italian immigrants, St. Anthony remained deeply meaningful to longtime families while welcoming new families and cultures into their beloved community. Premiered as the centerpiece of the jubilee celebration, the film reflected how the church’s traditions and identity endure through the voices and stories of both old timers and newcomers alike.

The 30-minute St. Anthony Catholic Church feature film weaves generations and cultures into a cohesive narrative celebrating the enduring spirit of the parish community. StoryKeeping also delivered a 265-chapter archive preserving the stories, memories, and reflections shared by parishioners, couples, and families representing the now-diverse congregation. As the film premiered during the jubilee celebration, parishioners nodded, laughed, and cried together as their beloved church community was showcased before their eyes.

Meet Your Legacy Filmmaker

Clinton Haby is a legacy filmmaking pioneer who has been establishing and elevating the legacy film industry since 2009. Recognizing his retelling of his grandparents' stories was a disservice to their spirit, Clinton sought to capture their energy and stories in the magic of the first person perspective. Initially, Clinton was his own client. With no template to follow, creating a legacy film business from scratch was a long and difficult path, but listening to client desires and studying all the areas of specialization that go into this work made StoryKeeping a sustainable business. Clinton is fascinated by people, intrigued by what makes them tick, and loves helping folks talk through everything that makes life worthwhile.
